Here Maharishi speaks
about the GOAL OF MEDITATION, which is to live our full potential at all times.
By meditating twice a day, and also engaging in meaningful activities outside of meditation, we allow the positive changes that happen during our TM practice to be an increasingly permanent part of our day-to-day experience.
For this to happen, regularity is essential. Just as we need a routine for sleeping, eating, and other habits, consistency is also key for our meditation practice to give the mind and body the chance to integrate the positive changes.
As we alternate between rest and activity in this regular way, we build a flexible nervous system that can adapt to the influences of the environment so we no longer get overwhelmed by outer situations and circumstances. Over time, this state becomes permanent, and we call this state Cosmic Consciousness.
Once the state of Cosmic Consciousness is permanently established, we do not lose the full, unbounded inner experience we have during TM, even while we are fully engaged in our activity.
In this way, regular practice over time will help us accomplish the goal of being able to live our full potential.
